What helps us succeed in our working lives isn’t always a good idea in our personal lives — competition is one attribute that springs to mind. At the same time, each of us has a finite amount of time each day to accomplish our goals.

How do we define our success? Is it because we get a big stipend, live in an extraordinarily large home, married the hottest man or girl in the county, or drive the fastest auto on the block?

Those certainly aren’t measures of success.

Building a business and entrepreneurship requires unique talents and a love for your career. It’s not about frivolous things. It’s about opportunity and your ability to uncover your dream.

For the sake of saving time and energy, I’m sharing a list of success tips that will improve your life and business drastically.

Be Passionate. And do what you for love. If you don’t love it, then why do it? If we build careers or continue in jobs that really aren’t our passion, we’re selling ourselves short. It’s like the guy that is a tech consultant that really wanted to be the lead singer of a band. I’ve written about love and careers before and I think that the takeaway here is that if you really do what YOU want to do, you will be more creative, motivated, and tuned-in people are considerably more likely to be financially and personally successful. Katherine Hepburn summed it up perfectly.

Add Value. You can’t go wrong with adding value no matter what you do or where you go. Simply simply, value is defined as anything for which people are prepared to pay a price.

Finding the intersection between what people are ready to pay for and what service or product you can provide that is connected with your beliefs, strengths, and ambitions is the ideal approach to give value.

What are you doing today to provide value to your employers and loved ones? What are some things you can do to improve your ability to add value?

Work Hard. Don’t ever fool yourself — success comes from really hard work. And you might find that although you’re doing all of the heavy lifting, there is satisfaction in a job well done. But remember that you need to rely on others, so make sure that you surround yourself with colleagues that share your same work ethic.

Be Extraordinary. It’s difficult to be successful if you do the same thing as everyone else.

It’s crucial to identify the edge and then push past it. That is how you will be noticed and will be able to get what you want.

The outstanding individual attracts them all, whether it’s money, meaningful connections, or a sense of personal success.

What makes you so unique? If you feel just ordinary, what are you going to do to become extraordinary?

Be Good. And by that, I mean damn good. Successful people strive for greatness, not mediocrity. So push yourself (and your team) to ensure that you’ve reached your ultimate potential. And be sure to celebrate your wins, that not only breeds confidence among your team, it will keep your colleagues engaged and also will keep your clients or customers enfranchised. If you haven’t read the book from Good to Great, grab a copy.

Focus. Focus always proceeds success — which is not possible without a clear emphasis on what matters most. And leaders constantly need to remind themselves of this vital truth. Focus requires the pursuit of a mission and vision.

Start Now. There are numerous aspects that go into becoming successful in both your career and personal life, but one is required: action.

Because they never start, the majority of people never realize their full potential. They are always preparing, planning and waiting for the best time to start.

If I waited until I was ready, I would not have a coaching practice, a website, a blog, a workshop, etc. You’ll never be totally ready because the stars rarely align, so start now and adjust as you go.

Do you need to wait for something before you begin? How much planning do you undertake versus what you really do? What’s the worst that could happen if you got started right away?

If you’ve been waiting, stop reading this post and get started on something you’ve always wanted to do. When you return, this article will still be available.

Be Persistent. Business development and entrepreneurship should be built out of love — and any great love requires passion and persistence to capture your dream. Although you will experience setbacks and failures, you will also find success and triumph.

Create Ideas. In addition to service, your brand will be driven by inventiveness, honesty, and foresight. Aspiration is an essential component of the creative process. Steve Jobs said it best.
